PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
GAUGE:
20 stitches × 26 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern
CAST ON:
Using long-tail cast on method, cast on 40 stitches.
RIBBING:
Row 1-6: *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row.
MAIN BODY:
Row 1 (RS): K2, P2, *P2, K8, P2*; repeat from * to * once more, P2, K2
Row 2 (WS): P2, K2, *K2, P8, K2*; repeat from * to * once more, K2, P2
Row 3: K2, P2, *P2, C4B, C4F, P2*; repeat from * to * once more, P2, K2
Row 4: P2, K2, *K2, P8, K2*; repeat from * to * once more, K2, P2
Rows 5-8: Repeat Rows 1-2 twice
Repeat Rows 1-8 until scarf measures approximately 59 inches from cast on edge, ending after Row 8 of pattern.
ENDING RIBBING:
Repeat ribbing Rows 1-6.
BIND OFF:
Bind off all stitches in pattern (knit the knits, purl the purls).
FINISHING:
Weave in all ends using tapestry needle. Block scarf to measurements by soaking in lukewarm water, gently squeezing out excess water (do not wring), and laying flat to dry on a towel. Pin to measurements if desired.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Hand wash in cool water with wool-safe detergent. Lay flat to dry. Do not wring or machine wash.
PATTERN NOTES:
- This pattern is worked flat (back and forth).
- Cable stitches are worked every 8 rows to create the signature cable twist pattern.
- For a longer scarf, continue repeating the pattern until desired length.
- For a wider scarf, cast on multiples of 12 stitches plus 16 for borders.
